"Be the change you wish to see in the World." - Gandhi
I saw this quote on a sticker during one of my random online shopping adventures and it struck home. If all of us thought this way, what miracles could we accomplish? (I assume, of course, that the changes we desire all desire are helpful and kind. I have faith in mankind, however misplaced I know it to be. Thus the nature of the cynical dreamer.)
In May of this year, I relocated to our country's heartland from Atlanta, Georgia. Finding myself smack in the middle of the United States caused me to reevaluate my priorities. What, exactly, did I value in my life? Where did I want to be? What memories was I making, for me and for my son? I thought about the problems facing the world today. The lack of natural resources, our dependency on fossil fuels, the level of convenience we've grown accustomed to having, childhood obesity, healthcare, welfare, gang violence. We're afraid and oblivious and ignorant. All of us are guilty of saying "But what can I do about it?"
My answer surprised me. I discovered a Bohemian Spirit. I made drastic changes. There are so many tiny things we can do differently to better our world and quite a few huge things would should all pay more attention too.
In an effort to make a huge difference in my life, and perhaps a small difference in the world, I am going on one of the greatest adventures I've undertaken yet. (And I have had some doozies, i assure you.) Not everyone will agree with everything I say, nor will everyone feel comfortable making all the changes I make along this project of mine. Everyone is different.
But if all of us changed one thing.... one tiny thing.... imagine the difference it would make. If you still can't see it, think about it like this: If one person gave you a dollar, it wouldn't make much difference. But, if a million people gave you a dollar, you'd be a millionaire. :)
One change at a time.
